Artist's Comments

The idea of portraying my Dragon Blooded character in Ukiyo-e style actually came from :iconmeluran: who showed me some of her beautiful ukiyo-e drawings and made me realize how well the style blends with the Exalted setting. So I decided to try and experiment, since the style was totally new to me.
The documentation actually took longer than the realization, but luckily I found a rather good book full with reference.
And it was FUN. Total FUN.

So well, meet Peleps Ianue again ([link])

Thanks for your insight, Mel.

Love the details on her dress/gown. Interesting to see a taichi sword in a Japanese-style picture =P

That looks excellent. Elegant, simple but detailed just enough. I love the background.

What book did you use? I'm trying to draw an Exalted character portrait for my girlfriend's birthday (which is now long overdue) and I'm looking for a way to make it stand out and be special, so I'm trying various ideas for the style of it and I'm struggling to settle on one.

Well done! You've captured all the elements of what makes ukio-e interesting, and brought it into Exalted.

It was "Japanese Printings" by the Taschen publishing house. Pink cover, large format. You can find about it here: [link]=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211123513&sr=1-1
And thanks for the appreciation :)

Well it's Exalted :P
I doubt it's a taichi sword, however. I found a reference in the 'net and seems to be a more ancient design. Not sure, though...

Mel can do that much better than me, but yeah, I couldn't help giving it a try :)

Elegant, lovely, I think you captured the style very well and Mel is an excellent person to learn from. :)
